Another aspect of giving is that all things are God's and He doesn't want us to become attached to them. By giving part of our possessions (not the leftovers or excess), we realize that the possessions aren't really ours to hoard but God's to share.…

I am a non-religious christian. I don't get into the rituals (which vary from denomination) and I don't believe that a spiritial leader is necessary. This person is trained by other people in how to act and what to say, etc.. The spiritial leaders o…

Perhaps we still have it wrong. God sent Jesus to correct our thinking, we had become lost sheep in the laws of religion. We have spent 2000 plus years arguing over what Jesus meant. Perhaps it is as simple as God is the Father and He watches over u…

Living is complicated. What we do, why we do it, what we expect from what we do, etc.. I feel God gives us what we need: food for life, physically and spiritually. He gives us the ability to continue to live both physically and spiritually. It is v…

Hadn't ever heard of Aspergers Syndrome. After reading about it, it seems to be a head knowledge explanation of people that are different then the norm and therefor must be treated to become more normal. Since we have different opinions of how we t…

Ennis said. if there is a purpose for His gifts to me, other than serving me, and I do nothing to apply the resources toward that purpose, would that qualify as robbing? If not what should we call it? I call it Mary. Mary didnt rob God of the gift…

oh my---what I MEANT was that I truly feel that any believer who chooses to "hold out" on God financially is not because they love the money more than Him, but because they don't trust Him to come through for them.I sure did not mean to imply that y…

Hey Lupine, "Criticizing" was a poor choice of words. I knew it when I wrote it but didn't take the time to find a better one. Sorry about that. Nothing negative was intended. I also recognize (identify with) the spirit of your present situation. I…

Hi Ennis! Wow, I totally apologize for sounding critical...I was actually trying to make a few puns...but I guess my sense of humor is a little warped :+) I was just sharing my own experience. Oddly, since we quit mechanically tithing, our finances…

Thanks Ginny, You're spot on about tithing NOT being a patch to fix up our financial problems. Often people are encouraged to tithe when their financial life is chaotic and God has never promised to bless that. It is like putting a new battery in a…

I know my finances were blessed when I was tithing. I can see a marked difference since I stopped. Your comments about financial health stuck a nerve. God takes really good care of me but I have yet to master what it means to be a good steward. I do…

Hey Lupine, I'm not sure if your criticizing church, tithing or both. When it comes to church we are probably very much in agreement with the idea that institutionalization has done more harm than good to the concept. If I have guessed wrong about…

Here's my 2cents (which is way less than a tithe, LOL!) Like Paula, I was an obedient tither for years and years...even at the 'expense' of paying my bills late. I worked in our church and knew the 'church police' would notice if our tithes went dow…

I love this question..probably deserves to be its own discussion, but since you asked is there ever a time you believe it is legitimate to say that a person is robbing God? My answer is No. How can you take from a giver? how can you steal from rea…

Hey Ginny, Not too worry. I didn't read anything negative or argumentative in your remarks. I'm glad for the discussion and appreciate the willingness of any person to engage. I think that the concept of law is not really understood and everyone, m…

I believe God's message is simple. We complicate it. If nobody is better than anyone else and we all can become a devoted follower of Christ, then nobody should judge, control, or manipulate anyone else. We can simply love each other as equals in God's eye and can pray that the people we come in contact with will choose to follow Christ. By sharing our time, stuff, money, and the good news of Jesus Christ, people can see a lifestyle that is different than they have ever seen before. They will see you enjoying life and praising God no matter what happens in your life. Of course, we aren't perfect and will experience up's, down's and inbetweens. They will see the difference God makes in your life even if they never met you before.

Thankyou God! I did it.

I did it! 70 miles on bicycle and crossing into Virginia in Bristol. 4 hours driving in the car, 7 hours on bike including breaks, and a 2 hour break somewhere in the middle of riding. A full day! Not bad for a 53 yr old. Thanks to God, I'm much healther than I was 12 years ago when I weighed 70 more pounds than now.

My Athletic Gift From God

I have had the tallent and it came easy. I never had a strong desire to excel and as a result I didn't come close to my potential. I'm 6'4" and am 215 pounds. I could dunk a basketball in 10th grade. Right after high school, I helped a friend train for his bicycle racing. I would run once in a while with a friend who ran 5 miles almost every day and it would blow his mind that I could keep up with and run the whole way with him. I took trips on my bicycle for a week or two at a time. I usually d… Continue

God's love through a second chance

God is awsome! I prayed that Luke wouldn't miss the second chance that God has given him. He now has a home where no rent is due and is on food stamps so his needs have been met. He's got a part-time job and may have an offer for a full time job tommorrow. He now has a bicycle for transportation and lives close to the bus line.
Luke wanted to go to church today, so we went. The sermon was on Luke 15 : The Parable of the Lost Son. It helped open up a conversation afterwards where I voiced my conc… Continue

Does become one flesh actually mean a child?

Just a thought. When a man and a woman get married and become one flesh, could that one flesh be a child?

The losing weight is a real battle for me. I tend to yo-yo. That's one reason (of many) why this goal is so good for me. I believe I need to be in shape to do the things I want to do, so I'm looking at it as eating nutritionally for a lifestyle change, rather than dieting. I expect the losing weight to be a nice side-effect.

How to be a Nobody

How to be a Nobody
By Kwee Lain

Everybody wants to be a somebody
Nobody knows how to be a nobody
If ever there is a somebody
Who knows how to be a nobody
Then that nobody is a real somebody

If you ever want to be a nobody
Then follow that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Later, let go of everybody
Even that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Eventually, you will be a real nobody

Written by somebody, who wants to be a nobody, for the benefit of everybody.
