I'm all Twittered out. :-) Too much information in and out for me.

After a few weeks using it I find that I'm not enjoying Twitter. I can't see it an effective way of connecting with people at a real relational level. Business, maybe, if you want to spend a lot of time on it working it into your marketing plan. And…

Hi Joel. Thanks. Yeah... we write from experience. Been away from all that for a while though I "peek in" once in a while to see if it's still there.

Hi Dave, just started following you on Twitter. "Dynasties of flesh and bone" - nice! Reminds of leaders who count the number of people following them or attending their "things".

YES... at least once a day I have those times... whether it's a day of emotional highs or lows. Even on the high days I'd look back at the end of the day and wonder what the heck I'm doing, if I'm on the "right" track, or should I be pursuing someth…

No More

No more building dynasties

of brick and wood and flesh and bone.

No more restless, mindless walking,

striving, aimless on my own.

No more painting Jesus by the numbers.

No more seeking my own throne.

No more living through another.

No one else but He alone.

Dave, how disheartening to work for an employer who saw graphic design as only a means to an end, and had no aesthetic appreciation for it. I've worked for clients like that, but not an employer. Goodness, no wonder that you feel you have a new lease on life with your book cover design. Were you able to take an early retirement and strike out on your own? Being single, I see myself sticking around for the pension and benefits. I'm glad that married folk often have the opportunity to try new things with the support of their spouses. How wonderful is that!

I just resigned from the Creative team that's in charge of all the artistic, multisensory elements for our church's gatherings. I shall miss it, I think. But it was time.

Dave, I agree - whether it's planting a garden or raising a child or doing artwork, I think God created us all to be co-creators with him. The book sounds interesting; I'll look it up. You know, I didn't realize until about five years ago that art was considered of such little value in the Protestant church. I hadn't gone to church much in my life, and my current pastor and I had a discussion about it. He really values art - in fact we have an art gallery in our sanctuary where local artists can display their work. Lee explained to me that before there were museums people would go to churches to see art, and how with the Reformation we threw the baby out with the bathwater. I'm sure it had something to do with worshipping idols, right? Anyway, creativity has been a main focus of the church I attend, though I'm thinking of leaving the Creative team I'm on and have to make a decision by Sunday.

From my mostly non-churched life it just seems so silly to me that the church would discourage or dinigrate artistic endeavors. We humans certainly have a tendency to muck things up, don't we?

Dave - good to link up again!
It was only last month that I rewrote my introductory blog. Jim has been a significant influence. I quoted part of an email from a friend - that was Bones. It was Puddleglum's comment on "The Room of Grace" that prompted me to put together "The Puddleglum and Old Pete Story"

I know I have this reputation for asking the awkward questions to which there are no easy answers - but I guess I've already asked more than enough on the web site to last a life time.

I wonder where we go from here!!

Dave, honestly I was so surprised to read that you struggled with a lack of confidence in your abilities in years past because you are so immensely talented. I understand though what you mean about not wanting to brag about yourself now, even though your confidence has grown, because of knowing that your confidence comes from Jesus, and your confidence is in him. And I think many of us who follow Jesus realize that whatever gifts pour out of us is just a result of being a willing conduit to God's Spirit.

Dave, of course your inner artist wants to be known and loved by the masses. Not only because you're human, but also because...well, gosh...your work *should* be known by the masses. You do exquisite design. Still, I'm glad you're enough of a Nobody to join the rest of us riffraff here. :) Oh, and thanks so much for what you said about my Che/Jesus poster. That means a lot coming from you.

Dave, how silly. I didn't even realize you were on Divine Nobodies as well as Twitter! Welcome. Your book cover design is simply mahvehlous, darlin'.

How to be a Nobody

How to be a Nobody
By Kwee Lain

Everybody wants to be a somebody
Nobody knows how to be a nobody
If ever there is a somebody
Who knows how to be a nobody
Then that nobody is a real somebody

If you ever want to be a nobody
Then follow that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Later, let go of everybody
Even that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Eventually, you will be a real nobody

Written by somebody, who wants to be a nobody, for the benefit of everybody.
