Just another Canadian nobody here.... glad to have found your group... just getting my heart wrapped around all of this stuff in general... kind of new to me yet not really as if it's been there all along.

Have you seen the movie about new and evolving forms of church in Canada? Click here if you want to see what I wrote about it and where you can find links to watch some previews.

I met Dr. Barb Olowski through my blog. She has recently finished research at a school in British Columbia on people who leave church. Her dissertation focusses on those who leave because of spiritual abuse. You can read her entire dissertation at www.churchexiters.com where you can also find her email address. I'm sure she would appreciate any input you could give her on her soon-to-be-published book.

Vicki, no not in Japan. I will be donating a kidney to my brother-in-law in June, then my 5 -yr. old daughter has kidney surgery in July. So we have other things keeping our minds occupied!

ya Terry - I noticed a cartoon series coming as well the other day in the paper. I wasn't able to "segway" this information with what I was discussing today - ha! - so glad that you mentioned it! interesting that both you and Joel have met Bruxy.... i must check this dude out.

Hey joel, welcome back man! I've met Bruxy, and have had
many conversations with him - mostly at 'church strategy'
events or other church kind of functions - in a past life you could
say. The Meeting House is different, but really all the same.
One interesting note for all HOSERS - Bob and Doug are
starting a new cartoon series - I can't wait to see what that's
like

hey adagio - thanks! yes, of course, my intention was not to be nosy. but i agree that so much of the media , let alone church, provides messages that are SO confusing as to what one is 'missing' or "not missing' and honestly, if I was married - I suspect i'd been thinking the same thing! Media creates SO MUCH imagery..... I mean many folks get divorced or live in dead zone relationships and I think that the media, society really harms those folks too - no safe place to discuss issues of relationships, life, etc. Our society really encourages to look and present as "successful" regardless of what the issue is - realtionships, sexuality, youthfulness, career success, etc. The more I can know that my deepest needs are met ultimately in Him, by Him, the freer I can become to love and live just as I am. : )

Hi again, vicki... I should probably read a few of the discussion posts here (particularly the whole thread of 'dead zones' before jumping right in and repeating what you or others may have said already. Right now, I'll comment on one line of thought from your post here.
Your comment reminded me that there have been a few significant crises in my life, where I felt there was no avenue of 'help' or listening in the particular church community I found myself in. I know that this sounds very self-centered, and that ultimately Providence was there to guide and help through different channels. I would affirm too that it is through Christian community that I have made many close friends.
Your comments about sexuality are interesting. Feel that is too personal for me to say much about.... except that I would agree that many of us need a whole lot of help in that area, married or single, and run into many conrflicting voices in church communties, doctrine and practice.

How to be a Nobody

How to be a Nobody
By Kwee Lain

Everybody wants to be a somebody
Nobody knows how to be a nobody
If ever there is a somebody
Who knows how to be a nobody
Then that nobody is a real somebody

If you ever want to be a nobody
Then follow that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Later, let go of everybody
Even that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Eventually, you will be a real nobody

Written by somebody, who wants to be a nobody, for the benefit of everybody.
