Book Club for Nobodies

Anyone interested in a book club? Thought we could have a book or two (or three or ten) that were up for conversation, maybe a chapter a week, be they "Christian," "secular," whatever. A place to discuss books in light of our Great Friend!

Paula, I can give a try to leading the discussion for Bo's Cafe, Unless (Hopefully!) there is someone lurking here eager to do so! I will begin by posting this in the Discussion Forum so that it is official!

adagio, would you feel comfortable starting and leading the discussion since you've been in many book clubs? I started one for a suggested reading list. I'll let you add your suggestion to the list. I agree - a polling option would be nice.

I am about to order Bo's Cafe and have just ordered True Faced. I suggest we give people until November 14th before we begin discussion, and then discuss the book for one month, giving latecomers a chance to jump in, etc. Then we could do a book a month perhaps?

I have been a member of several book clubs, where we choose books in advance.... pretty much lining up the reading list for the year. Here we may only want to line up the books for a few months at a time at least at first. It is too bad this group doesn't have a polling option, so that we could take votes for the book selections! One book I would really like to read is Thomas Kelley's Testament of Devotion.

Bo's Cafe is great! It really impacted me. I look forward to seeing what everybody thinks about it.

Works for me. How long should we give people to get it? I just went to Amazon and ordered:
Bo's Café: A Novel
TrueFaced
Authentic Relationships: Discover the Lost Art of "One Anothering" - Wayne Jacobsen
We don't have to do all these books. I just got 3 so I could get the supersaver shipping which takes 5-9 days.

I'll blast everyone in the group and let them know we're doing Bo's Cafe and ask them to let us know if they're going to read it with us. Then as we get the books we can post it here and when everyone has the book we can start. i've never actually been in a book club before. Any suggestions on how best to discuss the book?

I like this idea, Dan. I'm in the mood for fiction right now. What do others think?

Here's another thought: Anyone read the latest book by the authors of Truefaced? It's called Bo's Cafe. It's fiction, an easy read and powerful. I think it's available at Walmart. I vote we move on to that one. I think we could interest more people in that book. Here's a podcast where Wayne Jacobsen talked with the authors.

Pala, Adagio, I received an email in my personal email when you left these comments, so I'm guessing Steven received them as well.
I've read most of Truefaced and would participate in discussions as time allows.

Thanks, Paula! I may need 10 days to get the book before I am on board. Others may be in the same boat, so that an e-mail giving advanced noticed as to when discussion might begin would be great. :)

How to be a Nobody

How to be a Nobody
By Kwee Lain

Everybody wants to be a somebody
Nobody knows how to be a nobody
If ever there is a somebody
Who knows how to be a nobody
Then that nobody is a real somebody

If you ever want to be a nobody
Then follow that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Later, let go of everybody
Even that somebody
Who already is a nobody
Eventually, you will be a real nobody

Written by somebody, who wants to be a nobody, for the benefit of everybody.
